Well, I've promised a show for QUITE AWHILE now, and it's damned well time to deliver!!!  So, welcome to Episode #1 of QuispQuake Radio!!!  I used to do a FAIRLY regular show over at www.perkypat.com (now defunkt), and have been wanting to post shows here on the new site.  It's been a couple of years since I've done a general music mix of the stuff I've been listening to (I've done a couple of specialty shows, but no 'miscellaneous shows').

This show (and Episode #2 which is partially in the can) will be kind of 'tying up' the music I've been listening to since my last show on perkypat.  Episode #1 here is a bit heavy on the psychedelic side, but I think it's a healthy mix of really good music.  Hopefully you'll agree!!!

Something new I've done, is that I did NOT narrate the show.  I'm not sure whether I need to or not...(If you feel strongly one way or another, PLEASE email me at quispquake@quispquake.info).  Instead of narrating the shows, I will now be creating a page for each show with in-depth discussion of the music I've played, and links to the artists and label sites (click on the album pictures, artist name, or music label name to go to the applicable sites).  I think this is less 'disruptive' than having me break in every few songs.

Honestly, when I listen to the shows, I HATE the sound of my voice, and would prefer a non-interrupted flow of sounds.  But, if the general consensus is different, I'll happily go back to narrating the shows.

As an aside, this show (and all future shows) will be less than 80 minutes so that the shows can be downloaded & burned to a CD if you want.  The show was recorded in 128 Bit MP3 format, so sonically it should sound pretty good for you. Thanks for listening to my show!!! If you have any comments, please email me at quispquake@quispquake.info

From the LP: From Gardens Where We Feel Secure (1983 on Happy Valley Records)
A truly BEAUTIFUL album by Ms. Astley, "From Gardens Where We Feel Secure" is one of my favorite 'kick back and relax' albums ever.  I used this track for a compilation I put together for my wedding a couple of years back.  "Happy Valley Records" was a label that she herself put together, so it may be hard to find this album nowadays, but it is WELL WORTH the time to hunt it down, as the whole album is solid.

From the CD: Mountain Home (2007 on Language of Stone Records)
Produced by Greg Weeks, and also released on Weeks' "Language of Stone Records", Mountain Home's debut is a really pretty album that deals with death and darkness (WHAT a combination!!!).  That probably explains why Marissa Nadler is a singer on this as well.  A heady mix of folky styles on this, one of my favorite releases of the past year or so.

From the LP: Valerie Project (2007 on Drag City Records)
The Valerie Project is a new soundtrack to the film "Valerie & Her Weeks of Wonder", a Czechoslovakian film that originally released in 1970.  Philadelphia artists such as Fursaxa, Greg Weeks, and others 'rescored' the film, and have presented live performances synced to the film.  The soundtrack is very ethereal & VERY GOOD...check it out!!!

From the CD: Travellers Two (2008 on Important Records)
A collaboration between Tara Burke (Fursaxa) and Sharon Krauss...a very cool project, that sounds like a total intersection of their sounds.  One of my favorite releases of the year so far.

From the CD: Arborea (2008 on Fire Museum Records)
Lewiston, Maine's Arborea with another excellent release from earlier in 2008.  Traditional folk, mixed with a heady batch of psychedelia, this husband & wife group NEEDS to be heard.  I think this CD may be gone now (I ordered mine immediately as they only made 500), but grab one if you see it.

From the Tryst Haunt Subscription Series of 45's (2008 on L'Animaux Tryst Records)
Another interesting subscription 45 from L'Animaux Tryst.  I hadn't heard Prisma before this, but I'm very impressed.  An extremely QUIET release, that manages to grab ahold of you in spite of it's mellowness.

From the CDR: When Stars Guide Through Solid (2008 Self Released CDR)
One of my favorite finds of the past couple of years.  TwinsSisterMoon is one half of the Natural Snow Buildings project.  The cd mixes very sparse folk with extremely thick psychedelic noise sometimes within the same track!!!  Enjoy this track, and definitely snap up any releases you find by TwinSisterMoon!!!

From the CD:  The Snowbringer Cult (2008 on  Students of Decay)
Since I played Twinsistermoon above, I figured a track from the new split CD featuring solo acts TwinSisterMoon & Isengrind, and their collaborative project Natural Snow Buildings.  A LONG, but consistently interesting release of 2008.

From the CDR: Wasp Stings the Last Bitter Flavor (2008 on Digitalis
Another great release from Portland Maine's Cursillistas.  A very psychedelic record by the creator of the L'Animaux Tryst label, and one of his first NOT on that label...supposedly there's also a vinyl version of this one out there (haven't found one yet though!!!).

From the CD: Behold Secret Kingdom (2007 on Release the Bats
Getting heavily into the 'weird' for this one.  Raccoo-oo-oon have been around for awhile, but this is the first CD I've heard.  They definitely kick up an interesting racket...Hope you enjoy this as much as I have!!!

From the CDR: Gora (2007 on L'Animaux Tryst Records
My favorite artist on the L'Animaux Tryst roster, Barry Burst is a sitar player, that writes some great songs as well.  Gora came out last year, and is a very solid EP.  Enjoy this track, and if you find a copy of Gora, grab it!!!

From the CD: Sixty Horses In My Herd (1993 on Shanachie Records)
An amazing style of music that I've been introduced to recently is Tuvan Throat singing.  I went to the American Folk Festival a couple of years back, and had the great honor of seeing Huun-Huur-Tu live (had no idea who they were, but it was one of those life changing events if you know what I mean).  Enjoy one of the most unique types of music I've ever heard!

From the CD: Mother-Earth! Father Sky! (2008 on Jaro)
A new project consisting of Huun-Huur-Tu & Sainkho.  A VERY cool collaboration featuring two different Tuvan projects...Yes, Sainkho is also a  sounds with the vocals of Huun-Huur-Tu...enjoy!!!

From the LP: Catherine Ribeiro & 2 Bis (1968 on Disques Festival)
A GREAT psychedelic album by a woman with an amazing voice, this album originally came out in 1968 in France, and I found it recently on my travels. I don't have a lot of info about her, but I know what I like :)

From the EP: Heathern Haints (2008-Self Released Vinyl EP)
Heard about this one thanks to the Ptolomaic Terrascope message board.  Very Spacemen 3ish type sound, but with a totally modern feel.  A beautiful release, so grab one from them if you can get a copy still.

From the Tryst Haunt Subscription Series of 45's (2008 on L'Animaux Tryst Records)
More craziness from that hotbed of experimental action, Portland Maine (can you tell I'm from Maine???).  Big Blood is one of the offshoots of the (now defunct?) Cerberus Shoal, and Visitations are, well, Visitations.  Enjoy this collaboration, another in the L'Animaux Tryst 45 Subscription Series.

From the LP: Oar (1969 on "CBS Records" & Re-Released on Sundazed Records)
One of those albums that work with certain moods.  Skip Spence was originally part of Jefferson Airplane, and then left to form Moby Grape.  He (to put it mildly) cracked up, and proceeded to put together one of the most personal & intense records I've ever heard released on a major label.  I can't think of a better way to end the first episode of QuispQuake Radio!!!
